China's cybersecurity regulator said on Thursday it has fined ride-hailing giant Didi Global Inc more than 8 billion yuan ($1.19 billion), sending a strong message to the internet industry that it is vitally important to strengthen protection of data security and personal information.

Chinese tech giant Baidu Inc unveiled its next-generation fully autonomous vehicle Apollo RT6 on Thursday, which will be put into operation on Apollo Go, the company's autonomous ride-hailing service, in 2023, a move expected to accelerate the large-scale commercialization of self-driving technology, industry experts said.

China's Tianwen-1 probe beamed back high-resolution images of Mars' natural satellite Phobos on Saturday, marking the second anniversary of the launch. Phobos and Deimos are two natural satellites of the red planet. Phobos is the larger one with an irregular shape with no atmosphere and the closest satellite to the main star in the solar system.

The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 128 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 42 in Gansu and 35 in Guangxi, the National Health Commission said on Saturday.Altogether 594 local asymptomatic carriers were newly identified in 11 provincial-level regions on Friday.
