Chinese e-commerce giant JD will continue to improve supply chain capacities, expand its presence in lower-tier markets, and develop intra-city retail business as part of its broader drive to optimize costs and enhance operational efficiency, the company's top executive said.The company delivered better-than-expected financial results during the second quarter, with net revenue standing at 267.6 billion ($39 billion), an increase of 5.4 percent year-on-year.

Boosted by an increase of oil and gas output and higher energy prices, China's two major oil companies saw their combined net profit exceed 150 billion yuan ($21.89 billion) during the first six months this year, a figure close to the net profits for the whole of last year.

China vowed to provide basic charging services on highways other than in ultra-cold and high-altitude regions, according to an action plan released on Thursday. The plan, unveiled by the Ministry of Transport, the National Energy Administration, the State Grid Corp of China, and the China Southern Power Grid, also said that basic charging services will be offered at service centers along national and provincial-level trunk roads.

The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 259 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 70 were in Hainan Province, the National Health Commission said on Sunday. Altogether 1,035 local asymptomatic carriers were newly identified on Saturday, including 452 in Tibet and 125 in Hainan, said the commission in its report.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide surpassed 600 million on Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The global case count amounted to 600,449,934, with 6,485,233 deaths worldwide, as of 0020 GMT, showed the data.

China will accelerate the design of a construction plan for national demonstration zones for innovative development of trade in services, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday. Shu Jueting, a spokeswoman with the ministry, said at a news conference the ministry will make joint efforts with other government departments concerned to implement the plan.

In defiance of the so-called "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act" of the United States, which bans imports of products from China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, people from China's business circle said they have the confidence to effectively cope with ensuing challenges.
