China's industrial performance has continued its recovery momentum, even though industrial profits edged down as a result of multiple factors, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday. Major industrial firms, each with annual business revenue of at least 20 million yuan (about $2.92 million), saw their profits fall 1.1 percent year on year in the first seven months of 2022, to reach 4.89 trillion yuan, data from the NBS showed.

Shanghai announced on Friday it will establish a regional hydrogen pipeline network and a national trading platform, amid a slew of supportive policies to speed up the industry's development. The move is part of the country's concerted efforts to reduce carbon footprint and meet emission targets, experts said.

Chinese tech giant Baidu Inc on Thursday unveiled its first superconducting quantum computer and the world's first all-platform quantum hardware-software integration solution, a significant step in bolstering the long-awaited industrialization of quantum computing technology, industry experts said.

China vowed to provide basic charging services on highways other than in ultra-cold and high-altitude regions, according to an action plan released on Thursday. The plan, unveiled by the Ministry of Transport, the National Energy Administration, the State Grid Corp of China, and the China Southern Power Grid, also said that basic charging services will be offered at service centers along national and provincial-level trunk roads.

The central government has stabilized China's job market in the past 10 years and has managed to withstand the tremendous impact inflicted by the COVID-19 epidemic and challenges posed by economic downturn since 2020. China's economic recovery will increase its momentum in the following months as the country is stepping up stimulus through follow-up measures that will fortify its policy package for stabilizing the economy, economists and analysts said on Thursday.

China will accelerate the design of a construction plan for national demonstration zones for innovative development of trade in services, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday. Shu Jueting, a spokeswoman with the ministry, said at a news conference the ministry will make joint efforts with other government departments concerned to implement the plan.

Data from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security showed that the urban working population has increased in the past 10 years, growing from 373 million in 2012 to 468 million in 2021, and the average annual growth of newly employed people during the period was around 13 million.
