The balance of loans in Shanghai stood at 8.96 trillion yuan (about 1.39 trillion U.S. dollars) at the end of May, up 10.6 percent from the same period last year. The balance of loans in Chinese yuan reached 8.27 trillion yuan at the end of May, up 11.2 percent year on year, and the growth rate was 0.6 percentage points higher than that of the previous month, according to the People's Bank of China Shanghai Head Office.

The freight train route linking China's small commodity hub of Yiwu with Europe has imported goods 56 times more than the same period last year, the customs authority said.The total import and export value of goods handled by the route hit 16.63 billion yuan (2.58 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months, up 193 percent year on year, said the General Administration of Customs.

Also newly reported were 24 imported cases, of which eight were reported in Guangdong, six in Shanghai, four in Fujian, two each in Yunnan and Shaanxi, and one each in Beijing and Zhejiang.

China's Chongqing Municipality saw its foreign trade total 304.77 billion yuan (about 47.23 billion U.S. dollars) in the first five months of this year, customs data showed.The figure marks a robust increase of 39.9 percent over the same period last year, according to Chongqing Customs.
