As China's economy recovers, Chinese consumers grow more willing to spend. Retail sales for consumer goods went up in Jan-Feb this year and sales revenue of consumption-related industries rose 12.2 percent year-on-year during the 2023 Spring Festival.

The Ministry of Natural Resources announced on Wednesday that Minya Konka, a renowned mountain in western Sichuan province known as the "King of Sichuan mountains," has an elevation of 7,508.9 meters above sea level. This new measurement replaces the previously widely used figure of 7,556 meters, which was primarily based on photos taken by mapping airplanes in 1966 and released several years later.

Beijing adjusted polices of housing provident fund loans on Wednesday as part of an effort to loosen restrictions on house purchases.Under the new rules, if a borrower, including co-applicants, does not have housing in Beijing and has no record of housing provident fund loans nationwide, provident fund loans can be used for the first house. The Beijing Housing Fund Management Center released the rule on Tuesday.

The Singles Day shopping festival saw booming sales during its grand opening that kicked off at 8 pm on Tuesday, with high-quality and intelligent products, and livestreaming sessions gaining popularity among Chinese consumers. Data from Tmall, Alibaba's business-to-customer platform, showed that, in the first hour of the promotional event, the turnover of 71,900 brands exceeded that of Oct 31 last year.

The China Three Gorges Corporation, the world's largest hydropower developer and operator, has seen its agrivoltaics project connected to the grid in East China's Fujian province. Developed in cooperation with Fujian Sunner Group, one of Asia's largest chicken breeders, the combined photovoltaic and modern farming project in Guangze County, Fujian, boasts an electricity generating capacity of 45.6 million kWh on average a year in the first phase.

China will establish a pilot free trade zone or FTZ in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to promote high-quality development in the central and western regions, foster a golden pathway between Asia and Europe, and better serve the Belt and Road Initiative, according to a guideline issued by the State Council, the country's Cabinet, on Tuesday.
