About Jingdezhen, Jiangxi
The Porcelain Capital with A Long Producing History of About 2,000 Years
As is known, China is the hometown of porcelain and is famous as the "Country of Porcelain". As one of the main producing areas of Chinese ceramics, Jingdezhen boasts its long history of porcelain making and exquisite porcelain. It has been known for producing ceramics since the Han Dynasty from about 2000 years ago and became the national porcelain center and developed into a famous porcelain capital at home and abroad since 14 century.
A Bridge of Cultural Exchange Between East and West
"China" in English means both "China" and "porcelain". This two-syllable word is also related to the ancient name "Changnan" of Jingdezhen. The unique relationship between China, Jingdezhen and porcelain shows that Jingdezhen porcelain has become a symbol of Chinese culture in the eyes of foreigners. During the Tang and Song Dynasties in 7-13 centuries, Jingdezhen porcelain had been sold abroad along the "Silk Road" on the land and the "Road of Ceramics" on the sea. Besides, the exquisite porcelain-making skills have also been imitated by North Korea, Japan and other European countries. Jingdezhen ceramic has played an active role in spreading Chinese culture and art and promoting economic and trade exchanges, and has made indelible contributions to human life and world civilization as a bridge between east and west cultures.
