Domestic and international companies based in Shanghai are going full steam ahead to resume operations after the two-month disruption to business caused by COVID-related lockdowns. They have lined up new investments and novel products to indicate their confidence in China.

China will halve the purchase tax for eligible passenger vehicles and ease restrictions to spur auto sales and underpin consumption, authorities said. The country will slash the purchase tax by half for passenger cars under 300,000 yuan ($45,040) with engine displacements within 2 liters purchased between June 1 and Dec 31 this year, said a notice jointly released by the Ministry of Finance and the State Tax Administration Tuesday.

Northwest China's Xinjiang autonomous region plans a total fixed-asset investment of over 900 billion yuan ($134.1 billion) in 2022.The regional development and reform commission said the investment will focus on major projects in infrastructures and strategic emerging sectors, including railways, airports, power transmission lines and new energy bases.

The China Development Bank, one of the country's policy banks, has issued a total of 8 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) of financial bonds to aid rural vitalization.Raised funds will be used as loans to support the establishment of the beautiful countryside, rural infrastructure and public services, according to the bank.

The Chinese mainland Friday reported 21 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 11 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and five each in Beijing and Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's report on Saturday.

Chinese astronauts Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe will carry out the Shenzhou-14 spaceflight mission, and Chen will be the commander, the China Manned Space Agency announced at a press conference Saturday. The Shenzhou-14 crewed spaceship will be launched at around 10:44am on Sunday (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.

China's economic recovery showed fresh signs of momentum with factory activity data reflecting improvement in May, as gradual resumption of work and production was seen in regions hit hard by the recent COVID-19 outbreaks.
