The Chinese mainland Saturday reported 226 locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 166 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's report Sunday.Apart from Shanghai, 10 other provincial-level regions on the mainland saw new local COVID-19 cases, including 33 in Beijing.

Half of Shanghai's major makeshift hospitals have been shut thanks to the sharp decrease in the 0.number of COVID-19 patient admittances.Five of the 10 city-level makeshift hospitals, mainly in the suburban districts, have been suspended as of Friday, said Ding Bo, a city official in charge of the transportation of COVID-19 patients.

The first C919 aircraft to be delivered to China Eastern Airlines completed its debut test flight in Shanghai on Saturday. At 6:52 am, the plane numbered B-001J took off from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport and landed at 9:54 am after accomplishing multiple tasks in good condition and performance, according to the manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corp of China.

Refrigerators and freezers have gained traction among Chinese consumers and have seen robust growth in sales, as people spend more time at home and purchase groceries in bulk due to a resurgence in domestic COVID-19 cases, industry experts said. Statistics from All View Cloud, a Beijing-based consultancy specializing in home appliances, showed that online sales via freezers increased 46.6 percent year-on-year from March 28 to April 24.

Chinese automaker Chery Holding Group Co Ltd. reported strong new energy vehicle sales in the first four months of this year, said the company. Chery sold 68,587 NEVs in the January-April period, up 168.5 percent year-on-year. In April alone, NEV sales surged by 81.2 percent year-on-year to 15,533 units, according to a sales report by the company.
