China's oil majors recorded rising net profit and revenue last year, benefiting from rising energy prices. PetroChina Co's net income rose to 92 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) in 2021, more than quadrupling the level from the previous year, according to its annual earnings release. Oil and gas production rose 3.4 percent. Capital expenditure will likely be 242 billion yuan in 2022, compared to 251 billion yuan in 2021, it said.

The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported 1,787 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said on Friday. Of the new local infections, 1,363 were reported in Jilin, 358 in Shanghai, 16 in Heilongjiang, 10 in Zhejiang, and nine in Jiangsu.

Shanghai reported 358 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, 4,144 local asymptomatic infections, seven imported patients and one imported asymptomatic case on Thursday, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Friday morning.
