China is accelerating its cultivation of "little giants", or innovative small and medium-sized enterprises that have played a crucial role in helping the nation's supply and industrial chains withstand the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, officials and experts said.

The world's largest electric cruise ship, the Yangtze River Three Gorges 1, developed in China, made its maiden voyage in Yichang, Hubei province, on Tuesday. The ship, which is 100 meters long and 16.3 meters wide, can accommodate 1,300 passengers and will mainly be used for Yangtze River sightseeing trips near Yichang.

Shanghai will launch an environmental disinfection campaign in key areas across the city to curb the ongoing COVID-19 resurgence, according to the Shanghai Health Commission. The monthlong "preventative disinfection" work will be conducted at 10 kinds of key local sites, including office buildings, construction sites, public areas, transports, wet markets, shopping malls, communities, campuses and nursing homes.

Shanghai reported 326 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, 5,656 local asymptomatic infections, three imported patients and two imported asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Wednesday morning.

The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported 1,565 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission's Wednesday report showed. Of the new local infections, 1,150 were reported in Jilin, 326 in Shanghai, 26 in Henan, and 16 in Heilongjiang.

 East China's Jiangsu province saw its fixed-asset investment up 10.8 percent year-on-year in the first two months of 2022, according to the provincial bureau of statistics. During the period, investment in high-tech industries rose 43.6 percent. Among the total, investment in high-tech manufacturing and services jumped 47.2 percent and 27.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.

 China's National Energy Administration has released a guideline on energy development for 2022, detailing targets for securing energy supplies and boosting energy efficiency.
