Boeing China said it is working with its airline customers and is ready to support them after a nearly 7-year-old Boeing B737-800 passenger jet of China Eastern Airlines, with 132 people on board, crashed in the mountains of southern China on Monday.

The Chinese mainland on Monday reported 2,281 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission's Tuesday report showed. Of the new local infections, 1,902 were reported in Jilin, 110 in Fujian, 67 in Liaoning, 43 in Heilongjiang, 31 in Shanghai, 25 each in Shandong and Guangdong, 14 in Jiangxi and 11 in Hebei.

A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800, with 132 people on board, crashed in mountains in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region after a sudden descent from cruising altitude. Media reports claimed there were no signs of survivors.

China's top 100 cities contributed around 70 percent of the country's GDP last year, playing an increasingly important role in supporting the nation's overall growth. The cities created a combined GDP of around 80 trillion yuan ($13 trillion) in 2021, the lion's share of the nation's gross domestic product of 114.4 trillion yuan, showcasing the resilience of the Chinese economy and auguring well for the country's high-quality development over the next few years, experts said.
