The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 28 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said on Sunday. Of the new local infections, 13 were reported in Guangxi, 11 in Liaoning, two in Yunnan, and one each in Tianjin and Guangdong, the commission said in its daily report.

Chinese bicycle exports have soared during the past two years as bicycle demand from overseas consumers has increased for social-distancing and health concerns. China bicycle exports rose 14.9 percent to 69.26 million units in 2021, according to customs data. Export value jumped 40.2 percent to $5.11 billion, indicating a high-end trend in exports.

Despite its lackluster performance, South Korean carmaker Kia has decided to give it another try in the world's largest vehicle market. Kia and its Chinese partner Jiangsu Yueda Group announced on Monday that they would invest $900 million in their money-losing joint venture Dongfeng Yueda Kia.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow alert for heavy snow at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, with average snowfall exceeding 4 millimeters in the city and more on its way. Global athletes competing in the ongoing Winter Olympics and locals in Beijing woke up to an icy setting on Sunday as heavy snow started hitting early in the morning.

The city reported nine imported COVID-19 cases on Saturday, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Sunday morning. No new locally transmitted cases were reported. The first patient is a Chinese working in Morocco who arrived at the Pudong International Airport on February 1 via France.

Looking into 2022, China has a solid foundation for stable prices, after prices remained within an appropriate range throughout 2021, experts said.The moderate increase trend in China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, is expected to continue this year, said Liu Zhicheng with the Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research, a think tank under the National Development and Reform Commission.
