China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region registered 7-percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021, totalling nearly 1.6 trillion yuan ($251.2 billion), according to a press conference held by local authorities on Saturday. Last year, the added value of the region's primary, secondary and tertiary industries increased by 7.9 percent, 6.7 percent and 6.9 percent to 235.6 billion yuan, 596.7 billion yuan and 766 billion yuan, respectively.

Global energy giant Shell plc has started operations at the power-to-hydrogen electrolyser in Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, on Friday. The facility is the largest in its portfolio to date, and reflects the company's confidence in the country's huge market potential, industry insiders said.

Chinese brand Vivo took the leading role in the country's smartphone market in 2021, market research company Counterpoint Research said on Wednesday. With a market share of 22 percent, Vivo lead China's smartphone market last year followed by Oppo, including OnePlus, and Apple, with market shares of 21 and 16 percent, respectively.

China will help internet enterprises develop healthily and sustainably by enhancing inter-department coordination and implementing favorable policies, said the country's top cyberspace regulator.The Cyberspace Administration of China discussed the topic with three government departments and heads of internet enterprises at a seminar on Friday.

The Chinese mainland on Saturday recorded 54 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, 17 more than the previous day, data from the National Health Commission showed Sunday. Of the new local infections, 20 were reported in Beijing, 19 in Zhejiang, eight in Heilongjiang, four in Tianjin, two in Henan, and one in Yunnan, the commission said in its daily report.

Beijing reported 20 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, local health authorities said Sunday. Of the 20 confirmed cases, two had been reported as asymptomatic carriers before, according to the Beijing Municipal Health Commission.
