Two trains heading for Beijing have been stopped mid-journey with all passengers and the entire crew quarantined after two attendants were found to be close contacts of COVID-19 patients, Beijing Daily reported yesterday. One attendant on bullet train G14 leaving from Shanghai for Beijing on October 28 was found to be a close contact, causing the train to be stopped at Jinan West Railway Station in Shandong Province.

People coming to Shanghai from high-risk areas will be quarantined for 14 days at designated locations and receive four nucleic acid tests, local government said today. Those who come from medium-risk areas will be quarantined at their homes for 14 days and are subject to two tests.

China's trade council on Friday released commercial mediation rules for the settlement of foreign-related intellectual property rights (IPR) disputes, the first of their kind in the country.The rules will take effect on Nov 1.Issued by a mediation center under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the rules detail regulations on applications, personnel, modes and fees related to the mediation of IPR disputes.

A one-stop services center for foreigners working in the China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone was launched on Friday in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan province.The center offers expatriates streamlined services to process documents including health certificates for international travel, work permits and residence permits, cutting the total waiting time from 30 working days to as few as 10.

Bullish on China's innovation-driven biopharmaceutical environment, Takeda Pharmaceutical Co vows to further enlarge its investment in China, a top official of the Japanese drugmaker said. Takeda plans to raise its revenue growth in emerging markets to account for one-fifth of its projected total by fiscal year 2031, up from the current roughly 13 percent, said Ricardo Marek, president of Takeda's growth and emerging markets business unit.

More of the world's latest imported high-end medical devices are being produced locally in Shanghai under the country's new marketing authorization holder, or MAH system – which helps to give patients quicker access to better health products and services. Two companies – multinational Smith & Nephew Medical (Shanghai) and Flextronics (Shanghai) Metal Parts – are said to have set a great example in the use of the new system.

US tech giant Apple Inc said on Friday it derived revenue of $14.56 billion from China in the September quarter, marking an 83 percent year-on-year jump. The results came amid the robust performance of Apple's new iPhone 13 series in the nation.
