More than half of China's provincial-level regions have increased the payment standard for basic old-age pensions for urban and rural residents, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said on Wednesday.According to the ministry, a total of 16 provincial-level regions in China have raised the payment standard, with a maximum rise of 100 yuan (US$15.7) per month in some regions, covering more than 72 million elderly people.

A large-scale gold mine, with estimated reserves of 31.55 tons, has been discovered in central China's Henan Province, the Henan Bureau of Geology and Mining announced on Wednesday.The reserves are expected to reach 50 tons by the end of the year as exploration continues, it added.

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 23 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday. Of the new local cases, eight were reported in Gansu, seven in Inner Mongolia, three in Beijing, two in Ningxia, and one each in Heilongjiang, Shandong and Sichuan, the commission said.

North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reported 15 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases from 12:01am Thursday to 3pm Thursday, according to a regional press briefing on COVID-19 control and prevention.Fourteen cases were reported in the Ejina Banner in the Alxa League, and one case was reported in the city of Erenhot in Xilin Gol League, the commission said.

Beijing Police have caught 24 people for impeding COVID-19 prevention and control work, investigated 19 people, and given 13 administrative punishments, said Pan Hongxu, the spokesperson for the Beijing Police, in a news briefing on the pandemic control on Tuesday.
