Shanghai will host a top international shipping forum next week to boost the global shipping industry and enhance international cooperation, both of which have been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.The North Bund Forum will be held along the Huangpu River waterfront in Hongkou District between November 3 and 5 with themes of "openness and tolerance, innovation and reform, cooperation and mutual benefit," the city government announced on Tuesday.

The Chinese mainland on Monday reported 29 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Tuesday. Of the new local cases, 16 were reported in Inner Mongolia, six in Gansu, three each in Beijing and Ningxia, and one in Shandong, the commission said.

The Party chief of Ejina Banner, a county in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region that is experiencing an outbreak of the coronavirus, has been removed from his post for not fully implementing pandemic prevention measures, a local newspaper reported today. Chen Zhanyun has been removed and will be replaced by Dai Qin, the Party chief of Alxa League on a temporary basis, Inner Mongolia Daily reported.

Chinese scientists have established a quantum computer prototype named "Jiuzhang 2.0" with 113 detected photons, achieving major breakthroughs in quantum computational speedup. In the study, Gaussian boson sampling, a classical simulation algorithm, was used to provide a highly efficient way of demonstrating quantum computational speedup in solving some well-defined tasks.

China will upgrade Internet account and usage regulations to better protect personal information, crack down online frauds and prevent fake news, the industry regulator said yesterday. The Cyberspace Administration of China has published a draft on the national Internet account and usage policy, and is collecting public opinions and feedback until November 10.
