China's fixed-asset investment in the transport sector expanded to nearly 2.2 trillion yuan (about $339.22 billion) in the first eight months of the year, official data showed. The figure was up by 3.2 percent from a year ago in the same period, according to the Ministry of Transport.

China's international goods and services trade surplus stood at 291.6 billion yuan (about $45 billion) in August, official data showed. The country's trade income amounted to approximately 2 trillion yuan, and expenditure stood at around 1.71 trillion yuan, according to data released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

China Energy Engineering Group Co Ltd, or Energy China Group, has vowed to further expand its world business especially in clean energy projects abroad, as it set up its global business subsidiary, China Energy International Group Co Ltd, in Beijing on Wednesday.

Global airlines are ramping up efforts to reduce carbon emissions and investing more in related projects, despite taking the brunt of financial pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the next 10 years, Delta Air Lines, the top airline globally by total revenues, said it plans to invest $1 billion to mitigate all emissions from its global business. The Atlanta-based airline will invest in driving innovation, advancing clean air travel technologies, accelerating the reduction of carbon emissions and waste, while establishing new projects to mitigate the balance of emissions.

China's National Meteorological Center on Tuesday renewed a blue alert for rainstorms in various parts of the country and called for precautionary measures.From 8 am Tuesday to 8 am Wednesday, heavy downpours are expected to lash parts of Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and the Sichuan Basin, with some areas experiencing up to 120 mm of rainfall, according to the center.

The Chinese mainland on Monday reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Tuesday. Monday saw 26 new imported cases, of which six were reported in Shanghai, five in Yunnan, four each in Shandong and Guangdong, three in Shaanxi, two in Fujian, and one each in Jilin and Heilongjiang.

Over 16,000 residents in northeast China's Liaoning Province have been affected by extensive heavy rainfall beginning Saturday, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said Monday. From 8 pm Saturday to 6 am Monday, most areas of Liaoning were battered by moderate to heavy downpours, with some areas hit by extreme rainstorms and hail. A total of 16,583 people have been affected so far.
