Nearly 25,000 vehicles worth more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) have been handled by China-Europe freight trains via the port in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, the local authorities said Thursday. So far, vehicles from 17 luxury auto brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, and Land Rover have been imported via these trains to Chongqing since the city became a major port of entry for imported whole vehicles.

A new China-Europe freight train route linking southwest China's Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, with the Polish port city of Gdansk, was launched Friday. The first cargo train carrying goods such as furniture, household appliances, and machinery and equipment departed from Chengdu on Friday to Gdansk, the largest city and most important seaport in Poland's northern coastal region.

China's formal application on Thursday to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or the CPTPP, is the latest proof of the country's higher-level opening-up and shows its resolve to make greater contributions to the world economy, experts and government officials said on Friday.

The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 31 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, all in Fujian Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Saturday. Also reported were 15 new imported cases, including nine in Yunnan, three in Guangdong, two in Shanghai and one in Liaoning.

An online business promotion event was held on Thursday between Chinese tire producers and Brazilian merchants. Jointly hosted by the Shandong province branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and LIDE China, a Sao Paulo-based organization aimed at boosting China-Brazil business ties, the event gathered five tire producers from China's Shandong Province and potential customers from across Brazil.

Chinese smartphone company Oppo is striving to expand its role in the high-end segment, after the premium phone brand OnePlus merged with it. The move came as Huawei Technologies Co's smartphone business was crippled by US government restrictions, and most of the void in the high-end segment of the Chinese smartphone market has been filled by US tech giant Apple Inc.
