Investment in big data centers and associated industries reached 12.1 billion yuan (about $1.9 billion) in the first seven months of this year in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, the municipal government said in a press conference Monday.

China's electricity consumption, a key barometer of economic activity, expanded by 3.6 percent year on year in August, as the country's economy further recovers, official data showed. Total power use came in at 760.7 billion kWh last month, the National Energy Administration said.

East China's Fujian Province reported 120 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and 19 local asymptomatic carriers as of 6 pm Tuesday, said local authorities. The confirmed cases occurred in the cities of Putian, Quanzhou, and Xiamen, and the new asymptomatic carrier was detected in Putian, the provincial anti-pandemic workgroup said in a press conference.

China has updated its protocol on mass testing to better respond to possible COVID-19 resurgence caused by the highly transmissible Delta variant. Suppose mass nucleic acid testing needs to be carried out in a city with more than 5 million people. In that case, it shall be completed within three days, according to the updated protocol from the National Health Commission.

A popular Japanese-style buffet chain restaurant registered in Yangpu District has come under fire. A market watchdog in Yangpu District said on Tuesday that it is investigating the restaurant registered in the district after one of its outlets in Suzhou, in neighboring Jiangsu Province, was accused of cheating diners and posing hygiene risks.

Boeing Co has further raised its forecast for aircraft demand in China. Over the next 20 years, Chinese carriers are expected to acquire 8,700 new airplanes, accounting for 20 percent of the total worldwide, the US aircraft manufacturer said in its latest forecast for commercial air traffic and plane demand.
