China's service trade rose by 7.3 percent year on year to nearly 2.81 trillion yuan ($435.02 billion) in the first seven months of the year, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday. Of the total, service exports reached about 1.34 trillion yuan, up by 23.2 percent year on year, and service imports stood at 1.47 trillion yuan, down by 4 percent from a year earlier.

China will step up relief and assistance to market entities, especially micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthen policy reserves, to ensure cross-cyclical adjustments, the State Council's executive meeting chaired by Premier Li Keqiang decided on Wednesday.

The term "common prosperity", which has been brought up several times in China's key official documents, has gained global attention. In June, China issued a guideline on building the eastern province of Zhejiang into demonstration zone for achieving common prosperity. Under the guideline, the province will strive to achieve common prosperity by 2035, with its per capita gross domestic product and the income of urban and rural residents reaching the standard for developed countries.

Chinese tech heavyweight Alibaba Group Holding Ltd announced on Thursday it will invest 100 billion yuan ($15.5 billion) by 2025 to help promote "common prosperity" in China. Alibaba's investment will go toward supporting technological innovation, economic development and high-quality employment, as well as caring after vulnerable groups and setting up a 20-billion-yuan common prosperity development fund.

Shipments in China's wearable device market hit 36.14 million units in the second quarter of this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 33.7 percent according to market research company International Data Corp.

The opening ceremony of a three-week online shopping event that targets the sale of products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held on Thursday afternoon. The "Greater Bay Area Shopping Festival", scheduled from Thursday to Sept 22, involves about 298,000 brands from the region, offering more than 13 million items on Chinese online shopping platforms such as Taobao.
