Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region witnessed a strong recovery in tourism in the first half of this year, according to local authorities. The region recorded 17.58 million trips made by visitors in the first six months this year, up 110.9 percent year-on-year, while its tourism revenue rose by 138.1 percent to 17.95 billion yuan ($2.8 billion), said the regional tourism development department.

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 12 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, of which 11 were reported in Jiangsu and one in Yunnan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday. Also reported were 38 new imported cases, of which 21 were reported in Yunnan, seven in Guangdong, five in Sichuan, two each in Shanghai and Shaanxi, and one in Hunan.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of North China's Shanxi province totaled 960.67 billion yuan ($148.42 billion) in the first half (H1) of 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.2 percent, said a press conference held by the provincial statistics bureau Wednesday.
