On the theme of “Openness and Connectivity for a Smart Future”, 2020 East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum was successfully held by the Ministry of Natural Resources of PRC and People’s government of Shandong Province in west coastal new district of Shandong Qingdao on Sept 22th, 2020. Member of the Standing Committee of the Qingdao Municipal Committee and Deputy mayor Xue Guoqing was the host of the opening ceremony. The Opening speeches were delivered respectively by Deputy governor Yu Guo’an of Shandong provincial government, Secretary-general of China - ASEAN Center Chen Dehai, Deputy minister of Ministry of Natural Resources of PRC, Party members and Director of State Oceanic Administration Wang Hong. Vice chairman of the 10th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Gu Xiulian declared the opening of the Qingdao Forum and Qingdao International Marine Week 2020 of East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform. The professors and elites from ASEAN countries, World Ocean Congress, International Ocean Data and Information Exchange Committee and International associations,based on online and offline, got together to promote deep maritime cooperation of all countries.

Entrusted by the organizing committee of EAMCP, European American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the supportive unit of “East Asia Marine Expo and East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum”, successfully invited Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, Deputy Minister of Myanmar Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, CEO of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, to make congratulatory speeches video for the main forum, which were played to the all guests. International dignitaries and guests such as the former prime minister of Thailand and the president of Thailand-China Culture Promotion Committee, Vice Minister of Cambodia Environment Ministry, Honorary President of the International Ocean Academy, World Conference on Ocean Peace and the director of International Ocean Data and Information Exchange Committee, also sent their congratulatory videos to the forum.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, guests could not attend the forum in person. Meanwhile, network video broadcast could not be realized at the forum because of technical reasons. The chief scientists from the Marine and Coastal Resources Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand invited by the European American Chamber of Commerce and Industry also failed to watch the opening ceremony online as scheduled. However, the organizing committee said that the people of all countries tested by the epidemic will be more aware of the power of solidarity and cooperation, and East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum will surely become an important carrier for ASEAN countries and China, Japan and the ROK (10+3) to carry out multilevel and practical cooperation and jointly create future marine cooperation in East Asia. EAcham will also make persistent efforts to actively promote the cooperation between ASEAN countries, China and the European, American countries in the field of blue civilization.
